Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) celebrated Friday after the Education Department\u2019s Office of Inspector General\u00a0(OIG) agreed to a requested pause into the mass layoffs at the federal agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI called for an independent investigation into Donald Trump&#8217;s dismantling of the Department of Education, and now, it&#8217;s happening,\u201d Warren <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/warren.senate.gov\/post\/3lmkeoortqc2n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted on social platform Bluesky<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investigation will reveal what&#8217;s at stake for families. While Trump and Musk side with billionaires, I&#8217;ll side with our kids,\u201d she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/education\/drastic-staffing-cuts-education-department-reviewed-rcna200579?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma&amp;taid=67f842edfda153000133d0bd&amp;utm_campaign=trueanthem&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter obtained by NBC News<\/a>, the agency\u2019s Office of Inspector General said it would implement a \u201cseries of reviews\u201d into the recent layoffs. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ren\u00e9 Rocque, the department&#8217;s acting inspector general, said, \u201cA series of reviews to provide information on the Department\u2019s programs and operations following recent workforce changes.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rocque added the office would investigate how the cuts affected specific parts of the department and would give suggestions to \u201chelp ensure productive and efficient operations,&#8221; according to NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation came after 11 Democratic senators, including Warren, wrote a letter to the office requesting a review.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On March 11, the Department of Education <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/education\/5189588-department-of-education-lays-off-nearly-half-of-workforce\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/education\/5189588-department-of-education-lays-off-nearly-half-of-workforce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laid off approximately half its staff<\/a>, going from more than 4,000 employees to a little more than 2,000 amid President Trump&#8217;s ultimate goal of shuttering it completely.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has talked about moving programs such as student loans, nutrition and initiatives for students with disabilities to different federal agencies, while millions of dollars in federal contracts have been canceled between the Education Department and education research community.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
